Beautiful and refreshing rendition of that Bach aria ...

Enjoyed the Gusli as well ... I too learn something new on this forum most everyday. :)

Very lovely arrangement and a fascinating and peaceful sound. The Gusli is indeed an interesting instrument with a fascinating history. The relationship to the autoharp, zither and psaltery struck me immediately. Also, it seems that the Balalaika is larger than I had seen. Is this a bass version?

Conducting a search I came upon this somewhat related websiteyou might find interesting;http://balalajka.dk/english/index.html

Hi Rob,

The Gusli is aka Cymbalum. Btw, the trio in the youtube link also does a rendition of Astor Piazzolla:

You almost want to weep when you hear it - Its so beautiful and melancholically wistful.

Methinks that I will acquire a SubContrabass Balalaika:cool:

Glad you liked it KH - I will look into getting some tickets to hear this group next time they perform in Moscow.

Hi Rob,

FYI, the Osipov Folk Orchestra performs with many different Folk Instruments. And they always perform fantastically.............Oh yes - Zither, Autoharp, Psalter, Hammer Dulcimer and many other rarebirds.............
