You Ideal Recital Program

I'm sure there have been threads like this before, but this sort of thing is always changing. I'm always interested in how people program recitals and why. I have a recital coming up this coming school year and have been thinking about what pieces to program and what order to program them. So I thought it would be fun to make up make believe programs. Let's just say you have the ability to tackle any repertoire you so choose and it's just a matter of finding the ideal set of pieces. Let's keep the recital to one hour. And if you have a preferred organ or space to play in, make it known!

If you don't feel like coming up with a program, feel free to list a recital program that you've done and have been particularly proud of or maybe one that you've attended that you thought was really great.

I'm just curious to see peoples thoughts!

Interesting; I can see a lot of options to consider,

do you choose works to showcase features of the organ

do you choose works of a period, e.g. baroque, or the whole spectrum

do you choose works solely or mainly by your national composers

do you choose some other criteria

This needs considerable thought.

'Other criteria' surely must include type of audience (if that's relevant), plus type of building, including whether or not it's a religious building and therefore what's considered acceptable in the building, also the space and acoustics.

Ah yes I was afraid this might get too detailed. In my mind I was simply thinking of favorite musical works and programming them together.

Let's just say that, for the sake of argument, you have an organ with unlimited resources that played all types of music authentically and it was located in the perfect acoustic. Let's leave the audience out. This is based solely on personal taste.
