• Welcome to the Pipe Organ Forum! This is a part of the open community Magle International Music Forums focused on pipe organs (also known as "church organs"), organists, organ music and related topics.

This forum is intended to be a friendly place where technically advanced organists and beginners (or even non-organists) can feel comfortable having discussions and asking questions. We learn by reading and asking questions, and it is hoped that the beginners (or non-organists) will feel free to ask even the simplest questions, and that the more advanced organists will patiently answer these questions. On the other hand, we encourage complex, technical discussions of technique, music, organ-building, etc. The opinions and observations of a diverse group of people from around the world should prove to be interesting and stimulating to all of us.

As pipe organ discussions can sometimes become lively, it should be pointed out that this is an open forum. Statements made here are the opinion of the poster, and not necessarily that of the forum itself, its administrator, or its moderators.

In order to post a new topic - or reply to existing ones - you may join and become a member by clicking on Register New User. It's completely free and only requires a working email address (in order to confirm your registration - it will never be given away!). We strive to make this a friendly and informative forum for anyone interested in pipe organs and organ music.

    Many kind regards

I am sure you can buy a copy of this choir piece as I am sure it is not in public domain yet.. Perhaps email the poster of the video. Cheet out Sheetmusic plus, IMSLP or online retailer..

It is available in 100 Carols for Choirs. I cannot scan it - this would infringe the copyright.

The only difference, as far as I can recall, is the dominant pedal (in octaves), commencing at the antepenultimate line*. The rest is, I am fairly sure, the same. I shall have a look when I go to the Minster later.

An even better version was that which was (or may have been) written by Stephen Layton, when he was the Senior Organ Scholar at King's. The choir finished the piece in the normal manner but then, as they processed out through the choir screen, Stephen played an organ only version, which involved Tuba fanfares alternating with full G.O. and Swell for the last few lines. It was extremely effective - and one of the few times I have actually liked the Tuba sound at King's. Unfortunately it exists only in my memory - and on an old PAL videocassette, somewhere in my study....

* Or the fourth line from the end, if you list the final 'Christ the Lord' as a separate line in the text.

If I can find the video (I only use DVDs or Blu-Rays these days), probably the best thing is for me to write it down from the recording. However, I should then need to contact Stephen Cleobury to ask his permission to use it publicly. Although I have never heard it anywhere else (nor seen it in print), I would not wish to release it until I have his permission. I should also need to ask him who actually wrote it.

This may take me a couple of weeks or so to achieve, so I cannot promise anything as yet.

Indeed - but presumably he would still receive notification of PMs via e-mail?

Sean,

He should be able to ... that account is set up to receive email notifications when a PM is in their Inbox :)

But ... if their email addy has changed since joining, then there is no way to forward it unless h/she notifies us and we change it manually in their profile.
