• Welcome to the Pipe Organ Forum! This is a part of the open community Magle International Music Forums focused on pipe organs (also known as "church organs"), organists, organ music and related topics.

This forum is intended to be a friendly place where technically advanced organists and beginners (or even non-organists) can feel comfortable having discussions and asking questions. We learn by reading and asking questions, and it is hoped that the beginners (or non-organists) will feel free to ask even the simplest questions, and that the more advanced organists will patiently answer these questions. On the other hand, we encourage complex, technical discussions of technique, music, organ-building, etc. The opinions and observations of a diverse group of people from around the world should prove to be interesting and stimulating to all of us.

As pipe organ discussions can sometimes become lively, it should be pointed out that this is an open forum. Statements made here are the opinion of the poster, and not necessarily that of the forum itself, its administrator, or its moderators.

New version of Kalvträsk Church sampleset

Hi!

At last I can announce the release of my new version of Kalvträsk church sampleset. All samples have been completely reworked from the original recording, now presented in the original quality 24 bit 48000 Hz samplerate. Completely new GUI consoles using custom graphics for both the original and extended version.

The original is still faithful to the real instrument but the extended version also contains lots of samples recorded from another Swedish late romantic organ.

You can find the sampleset file on my download page as usual. The organinfo page will also be possible to read there as well.

To use the extended version you must have a GrandOrgue version of at least 0.3.1.1240 to be sure that the floats are read in a consistent way independant on the locale (language settings) on your computer.

Looking forward to hearing opinions and suggestions for improvements. I hope that many will enjoy playing GO with this new version!

Kind regards

I have worked with GrandOrgue v0.3.6 1088

I tried kalvtrask.organ and I do not read the names of stops so I do not understand what I do.

The sound of the keyboard is too intrusive.

I tried kalvtrask-ext.organ and it gives me 'error "Invalid float value' / Rank001PitchTuning ': 17.23"

Comunque, grazie per i nuovi sample set.

Hi!

In the Panel menu of the original version you have a Kalvträsk Noise entry, where you can choose to entirely disable the motor and action noises if so desired. If you wish to lower the noise amplitude you can do so in the OrganSettings dialog. There's also a Panel named Stops where you'll find larger images with the stop names easier to read.

And yes, you need at least 0.3.1.1240 if the extended version should work reliably.

Kind regards

I spent a couple of hours with this virtual organ and I'm impressed !
I really like the sound, the extended version is really practical.
I've even tried an impulse reverb and it works !!
( although the software warning, saying that it's not supported, it's ok set at minimum db value)

Lars, thank you again for this gift !

Hi!

You're welcome! I'm glad that you like it, it has been many hours work to complete this reworked version but I'm very pleased with the result myself too. The extended version now also contain many stops that are sampled from a real organ (for instance is the lowest octave of the 32' Kontrabasun real and not extended digitally!). It might seem that the extended version doesn't contain many objects on the main console screen, but this is intentional as almoast any combination feature a user would wish for is available in the Panel menu. So my aim was to crate an extended organ that still has it's roots in the classical tradition but where the overall tone has turned over into the romantic, which is also true to Strand's historical position as an organ builder.

Kind regards

Hi Lars,

Superb work my friend. Crystal sound on both versions. Keep them coming ! (though you know I know how much time and effort needed to do so...)

Feedback observations :

On original set the GUI is not fitting on my 16:9 lap screen so I had to use the scroll roller to see the bottom of virtual pedals or the stops on top :)
Must work great on 4:3 yes?

In original version draw stop FX do not work. I studied your odf and saw they're not displayed. Possibly because of this.

I got draw stop FX working though on many of my own sets. I'll PM you about to exchange info and test.

Extended version works OK no issues (but no FX). A real charm and great set for many styles and hours of enjoyment.

I like very much the original - you know I love small organs.

Basically my main complain is the single releases... on staccato they sound bellsy.... :)

Otherwise this is a superb GUI work, in fact the best in GO so far (surpassed our PITEA LOL), excellent KBD and Ped noise and blower noise FX on/off (you got me first on these as I have them already but not shared yet !!! LOL).

I had much fun with this superb set. and..... it's FREE !!

PS - I found out, some months back, that Drawstop FX, Rossignol, blower noise, Church bells and of course tracker FX could be on and working even with MyOrgan 1.0.6 )))))))))

Hi!

Thanks for the feedback. The original screen will demand a large monitor screen. I just didn't want to reduce the size too much.

Do you actually say that you've got the drawstops making noise when you click them on/off in the gui? I couldn't for my life get it to work, please share this workaround for GO if you have it! However, if you use a MIDI console for switching the stops it's perfectly possible to have the noises from the drawstops at on/off too. (try using a keyboard at channel 5 for stops and it "should" work with what I've done in the odf)

Kind regards

Hi Lars,

Thanks for the info, I'll try this way with my console and see what happens :)
I didn't assign any of my physical stop buttons yet, so if I had done it I would probably listen to them.

Yes, I got drawstop FX sounding on GUI (clicking the mouse on any on/off, use the shortcut from lap's KBD and button from Midi controller).
Not in Kalvtrask.... I didn't attempt to modify your odf (I prefrered playing...LOL), but I got many other custom sets here that work smooth.

Let me see how to share this info, as I'm using SP samples on and cannot share those. I got plenty draw stop sounds though, form the set I'm working right now, so maybe I create something with them (will be a free set anyway later..) .
Must be a new thread also and probably I'll have to make some pic too. :)

See you all ASAP
