    Kommisar Kolin,

CD is not playing tricks - Lots of meteorites have landed on Russian soil since I arrived...

Saw it on the news this morning Colin. The damage did not look too severe, broken windows from the blast etc. Must have been very frightening for those on the ground. I believe the last one like this was the beginning of the 1900s.

Yep, when a continent is over 10 million square miles it will have a disproportionate share of meteorite strikes - Lets just be thankful that the Moon is in just such a position and angle, this so that it takes the brunt of meteor strikes instead of the Earth.

I guess to quote and old song " Our day will come "... yes with over a thousand people injured..;plus looked like on some vieos alot of buildings damaged..Glad their are so far no deaths.
....To play only what is written is the domain of science. To realize what is not written is the domain of art."

I wish you the Best for each day, now and always.

With their ritual human sacrifice it did not matter what they worshiped - Their doom was a foregone conclusion............

With the meteor traveling at 30 km/s most, if not all air-defense missile batteries are absolutely useless...Yes GrandDame Margaret, thank God no one was killed...

Yep, one does wonder - And now the question that begs to be asked is: Why not a DEW-Line to warn of approaching meteors? DEW-Line aka Distant Early Warning-Line:

The DEW Line was a system created for the detection of ballistic missiles, enemy aircraft and the like during the Cold War.

Now there is PAVE PAWS aka Precision Acquisition Vehicle Entry Phased Array Warning System. Maybe a networked array of antennas that straddles the Equator...? Of course, then one needs a networked array of rockets with kinetic warheads to "take out" the incoming offender...

You have caught me late at night and unprepared but I read in google science that such an early warning system has been set up unfortunately I can not remember the name but it does put things in perspective as far as the so called "man made global warming" fiasco is concerned.

I believe a lot of the meteors are spotted by amateurs who then relay the information to the relevant authorities. The good side of the last meteor strike is that the pieces are now being sold for substantial amounts of money, running into thousands. Rumour has it that the first Bowie knife was made from metal from a meteor. True or false, anyone know?
