Girls can play the organ, too

I have the feeling that most of my esteemed colleagues in this forum are male. I am not, and my husband commented one day when he saw what I was searching for on my iPad, "The Male Organ forum?"

What can I say. I just about fell over laughing.

What the forum is does not necessarily mean what organists are. I've known or known of female organists since shortly after the hills were created. And some of them made darned good names for themselves -- witness the late Marie-Claire Alain and many others. Don't lose sleep over who contributes to the forum!

All genders are quite welcome on this forum. As previous members have stated, there are many fine female organists, Pamela Decker, Carol Williams, Jennifer Bate, Joan Lippincott, Diane Bish, to name a few. In my region, it's a 50/50 split between male and female professional organists.

Anyway, welcome to the forum .

And probably the most skilled improviser and virtuoso lady organist, who was also a student of Marcel Dupre, who left us too early is Jeanne Demessieux.

What ever happened to "Methodist Girl"?? I haven't seen her tag on here in quite a while. Are you there MG???

As for Ms. Demessieux, if memory serves me, she was rather famous for always playing with high-heel shoes. That's quite an order!!
