Still summer here ... 85° most days, although yesterday we did get a fair amount of rain, a welcome respite. But right after the rains the clouds depart, the sun shines brightly and the humidity goes up to 100%, with full sunshine.

Actually we get three seasons here ... Summer ... Winter ... Summer

Winter is for 3 weeks.

Well we certainly seem to have here. Very damp and misty the last couple of days, however it burnt off today and has been warm and sunny. Managed to do a bit more surgery on the hedges.

Well its November and the geraniums are still in flower. This year I am trying a trick an old nursery man told me about. Take the geraniums out of their pot (or bed) shake the earth off the roots and hang them upside down in a dark, frost free environment. This should ensure that you have mature plants ready for repotting the next year. If anyone has tried this, with or without success I would be glad to know.

The trouble is Mike that if you start talking about pelargoniums people tend to think of the weaker house plant variety rather than the half hardy type. They tend to have more subtle blooms as well as being more delicate generally. I have always (the last 55 years) purchased "geraniums" as geraniums and I think you will find most nurseries sell them as such. Thanks for the link. Please send some sunshine as I believe Lars is hogging it all as he likes it so much. Not cold here but just drab. No incentive to garden.

A very foggy start and then..........blue skies and sunshine. It's still cold but a lovely day. It almost fooled me into thinking Spring was here.

Spring has come and gone and now we are into Summer already. Record breaking temperatures forecast for all of February ... 15° (F) above normal at a blistering 89° (F) and ... again ... too much stupid sunshine

I can sympathise with you I have had a load of outside jobs to finish off but by about 10am away goes any cloud cover leaving just that b%%#@ Sun, it creates too much contrast for my poor old eyes, I just can't see a thing, and of course the heat, never relenting heat, roll on Autumn.

 @ teddy ...

Shoot, we've been running the house A/C since early April here. The electric company loves the revenue from our house this time of the year. Conversely the gas company loves us during the winter.

We are supposedly going to reach the 100° (F) mark this coming week. June is typically our hottest month with the record being 117° (F) in 1992.

We will miss a week of it as we are off to Cozumel (Mexico) for a week of R & R ... sailing, snorkeling, swimming, sunning, no phones, no internet, no cars, just lots of fun at the all-inclusive resort we are booked at.

The front of the house (facing south) is where they would have to go ... the CC&R's of the neighborhood prohibit such things where it is visible from the street. All the homes where I live have Mexican tile on the roofs.

My electric bill isn't that bad anyway. The past month was only $107.00 USD and the AC has been running the whole month. I have a balanced power home where we use Gas for home heating, water heating and the dryer for laundry. The high range for both utilities year round runs about $200 (USD) per month and that's doable for us.
