Fascinating plant Colin. I have heard of Chinese Pears but never seen them. Sounds wonderful.

I can't wait until we get our farmer's market open. This place is weeks late

Yes it is too good for it's own good so to speak, could spray the fruit with manure (evil little grin appears) that would stop the kids now for the Waspybirds......

We have been assured that everything will be more expensive this year.

Coming to the end of May and we are still lighting fires. Cold and drab outside and at least the coal fire gives some warmth and cheer. Grass wants cutting but it has been too wet to try.

We usually have a first fire in mid April but apart from two cold days it has been a mild period now having said that I expect mother nature to shut me up

One good thing to come out of this late Spring is the strawberries. They are going to be larger and sweeter than usual. We have already eaten some local ones and for this early in the year and despite the lack of sunshine it does look as if it will be an exceptional year for them.

I have just read that historically a bad May usually is followed by a good Summer! Anyone want to place any bets?

Actually woke up to a lovely day. Sun is out and we have lost that cold underchill to the air. However rain is forecast for later so it will be interesting to see how the day holds up. Hopefully some time in the garden today.

First blooms opened on some of the roses yesterday, only 30 days later than usual.

I just can't wait until I can enjoy some watermelon when it comes in.
That will be when the store gets it here.

Well, it has been beautiful all day. The Magnolia seems to have suffered though. Leaves are yellow and not a bud in site. I believe it is suffering from an over abundance of rain.

Quite a good bank holiday weekend but back to the rain and clouds now. We have now had twenty two months of drab weather.

Our almost summer winter is over now, getting the new global warming spring showers,
very windy rainstorms, day after day, dark with heavy rains, for a while, then sunny, for another while.
At least it's a warm rain.
I didn't even wear a sweater for one day this winter.
