• Welcome to the Pipe Organ Forum! This is a part of the open community Magle International Music Forums focused on pipe organs (also known as "church organs"), organists, organ music and related topics.

This forum is intended to be a friendly place where technically advanced organists and beginners (or even non-organists) can feel comfortable having discussions and asking questions. We learn by reading and asking questions, and it is hoped that the beginners (or non-organists) will feel free to ask even the simplest questions, and that the more advanced organists will patiently answer these questions. On the other hand, we encourage complex, technical discussions of technique, music, organ-building, etc. The opinions and observations of a diverse group of people from around the world should prove to be interesting and stimulating to all of us.

As pipe organ discussions can sometimes become lively, it should be pointed out that this is an open forum. Statements made here are the opinion of the poster, and not necessarily that of the forum itself, its administrator, or its moderators.

In order to post a new topic - or reply to existing ones - you may join and become a member by clicking on Register New User. It's completely free and only requires a working email address (in order to confirm your registration - it will never be given away!). We strive to make this a friendly and informative forum for anyone interested in pipe organs and organ music.

I found this little gem while searching for classical organ music vids on Youtube. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J1kxwTHfOYM

Wouldn't it be great if something like this was available as a free Grandorgue sample set? An "Org'chestre" set for GO was posted on this forum late last year - and that could be a good starting point for a very adventurous sample set creator. It would probably only take a decade or so to record and noise-reduce the samples (and only about half as long to download) - not to mention the practice time needed to reach this level of musicality;)

Seriously though - it really does show what can be done by sampling traditional instruments. With this sort of dynamic range I would guess that everything was done at 24 bits - or better.

And what an stunning performance by this young guy! How he can play this Bartok piece - with all its complex rhythms and orchestration from memory - and have it so accurately matching what you would expect from a renowned fine orchestra is simply mind-boggling. No doubt he had the pistons set up well to match the score - but it sure makes remembering a few registration changes in a conventional organ score seem rather trivial.

Best wishes

Hello Diode,
I'm the one that posted the "org'chestre" last year .
(finding a server wasn't easy and the links are all dead now ...
maybe I should try "mega" ? ... )

I really like the performance of this organist-pianist playing the Bartok's concerto for orchestra,
The Yamaha electone seems to be this one : http://www.imoose.nl/electone/details/els-01x.htm
els-01x.jpg
And you can see here, that this machine cost about 15 000 $ ! (other are even more expensove !! )
I think a sound bank (same quality as the sounds on the youtube clip )for GO or other sotware will not be free ...

If you still wanted to offer this sample set for the community, I could host the sample set on my server. If you're interested, let me know and we can figure out what the best/easiest way to do this would be. I believe that I still have the samples from when I originally downloaded the set, but I may need another copy of the ODF as I think I made some changes to mine.

Take care,
Matt

Hi Sesquialtera and Matt,

I was only joking - of course - about making this a free GO sample-set . As it would not be legal to use recordings from the original - all the samples would need to be created from scratch and that would be virtually impossible. The ELS series also seem to rely on some fancy keyboard vibrato features that would not be available elsewhere. In fact $15,000 seems quite a reasonable price for this instrument - even if way out of my reach.

What really impressed me about this particular clip though - leaving aside the sheer skill and artistry of the performer - is that technology has now advanced to the point where such a range of believable orchestral sounds are possible from a single keyboard instrument. On a different level - but equally impressive - is the fact that PC technology - plus GrandOrgue and the free sample sets generously created and donated by the community - have given all of us with a passion for organ music affordable access to a range of virtual pipe organs that sound very much like the real thing.

Best wishes,
Diode
