    Rediscovering seldom played music...

Not far from my residence is Vedenskoye Cemetery - There I found, to my great surprise, the Irish piano virtuoso John Field has his resting place. I mentioned to my wife and she was very surprised. So, we have listened to John Field's Nocturnes:

Field certainly should be better known, he wrote many fine works. And it's slowly becoming more widely acknowledged that he was certainly one of the first composers, (possibly the first) to develop the form of "Nocturne" that Chopin later popularised. Lovely stuff.

If my memory serves me Chopin was indeed enamored by the work of John Field.

Indeed CD, and a lot of people think Chopin was the originator of the genre.

Looking at Chopin's and Field's birth and death dates I am wondering if they hadn't crossed paths in their lives? Anyone care to guess?
