    Pipe Organs in Sweden

Will be spending a few days in Sweden during the summer in the region of Harnosand on the Baltic coast and will be taking my organ shoes! Does anyone have knowledge of pipe organs in that region and the best person to contact in each case? The only site for possible contact that I've found so far is: www.kmr.se (which is Kyrkomusikernas Riksforbund).

Nikam, ensure you go to Uppsala (it was the capital of Sweden before that title moved to Stockholm) and go to Uppsala cathedral . I believe the organist there is still Andrew Canning (he did post on this forum a few years ago when they had their second instrument completed). The newer instrument is a Ruffatti and original instrument in the gallery is by Pers Ackerman, a protégé of Cavaille-Coll (his chief voicer I think it was). I can't speak for the Ruffatti because it wasn't there when I was, but the Ackerman is a beautiful instrument, and sounds magnificent speaking into the massive acoustics. I had the great privilege of playing it not only for a friends wedding, but at their High Mass the following day. Andrew Canning was a very approachable man, so he would be worth getting in touch with. If I can find his contact details, I'll PM you.
But go to Uppsala anyway - it's a lovely city!

EDIT: Actually, this would probably make it easier, his web page:

Thanks for that Soubasse. Have been to Uppsala some years ago, but a visit there this time is definitely not possible. Will try to get in touch with Andrew Canning though, as he may have some useful contacts for my quest.

(I see he's in the Faroes right now. I had the pleasure of playing a couple of organs there last year while on a cruise - but his renditions will be distinctly superior to mine! )

Thanks Marko. Fredrik Sixten has 'defected' and has been at Nidaros Cathedral since October 2013. If I have correctly understood some Swedish, Harnosand Cathedral have just recently invited applications for the post.

He is talking briefly on this youtube video which is of American organist James Hicks recording a CD of Nordic composers on the Setterquist organ in Linkoping Cathedral.
