Why do you live where you do?

Doubtless many forum members will have been born in the country where they continue to live, but for those who live in foreign countries, why have you become domiciled there - or are you just passing through?

I came to NZ from the UK in 1964 for many reasons which I wont divulge, I have been back on a visit which only confirmed that I made the right decision, NZ is not perfect by any means but it beats all the other countries that I have been to.

Ithaca, NY. I work in a head shop (as a fun day job) and I own an advertising business.

I was brought up in Dorset from the age of 18 months, spent 23 years in the RAF saw a bit of the world then came back home, spent a further 5 years working away but don't wish to leave any more. A place tends to grow on you after the first 50 years!
    Cheers MIKE.

Born in Detroit, Michigan ... family moved west to California when I was 9 months of age, so I had little to say about it ... In my adult years I moved north to Washington state (Pacific Northwest) and really fell in love with that area.

Moved to Arizona for work reasons in 1982 - Although I loathe the summer heat, it is a place that I can tolerate the rest of the year. Besides, living in Tucson is kinda neat - lots of old western history is here. I also love my present church position/organ/parish where I've been the organist since 1982.

I've been to Italy, Austria, Hungary, the UK and Denmark over my lifetime. My wife cannot tolerate long periods of time in a wet/damp clime so we remain in the desert, stupid sunshine and all.

JHC - always had a yen to live here and finally made it 10 years ago with no regrets whatsoever.

As for the foreign country Teddy, you won't need the duster for your passport after all!

Its probably best for everyone Nikam. I would quite like to live in the South of France or failing that the North of Spain. In a lot of villages in the SoF I could buy three houses for what mine is worth. And they have the beloved sunshine.

We have been quite lucky with sunshine this year but I still crave the real heat that you only seem to get abroad. I love it when on holiday and it is so hot you have to go in the pool or the sea. So hot in the evenings that the heat radiates from the stones and you have to drink plenty of wine to avoid dehydration.

Don't get too cocky Jock baby. look what is coming any time soon, make sure you are not wearing your Kilt

The macaques, Europe's only wild population of monkeys, are a popular tourist attraction but their numbers have risen to around 200 and some have started roaming into town, looting bins, foraging forfood and scaring locals.

Last winter though, we did get snow:

And no, that is not a dirty camera lens ... it's actual snow.

That's my house in Tucson, btw.

Snow I like Lars especially at Christmas. We have on rare occasions been snowed in her, albeit in the short term. Love it
