My new CD player has been a disaster despite being a very good brand it has been repaired then replaced but not fixed now waiting for another one with the latest mods in the meantime I am reduced to either my mp3 player or some of my old vinyl.

The ones that got me a bit excited were the old vinyl jazz ones Mick Mulligan and George Melly Jimmy McPartland some early Acker Bilk etc etc so I thought I would try a thread for Dixie and Brit trad jazz I wonder how many of you remember this era.

Mick Mulligan's Magnolia Jazz Band-Savoy Blues

Jimmy McPartland ---Original Dixieland Onestep.

I saw quite a few, Nat Gonella, Chris Barber, Acker Bilk, Kenny Ball, Terry Lightfoot, and listened to others, Ken Colyer I would have liked to see but never made it. I was also into modern Jazz and saw some of the JATP tours in the late 1950s, Ella, Shelley Manne, Jimmy Giuffre among others, in later years I also saw Shearing, MJQ, Oscar Peterson, Joe Pass, Ellington, Basie, Herman and the reformed Miller orchestra.

I can still listen to and enjoy all the above and others that never made it to these shores.

The 50's saw the revival of Dixie in the UK and a lot of jazz clubs were started with amateur bands and I know that some of the players from that time are still going I have seen the odd clip on Youtube unfortunately a lot of them kicked the bucket. but they were good times.
