Note to COMCAST users ...

Because Comcast apparently has decided to block all European email-addresses per default, including mails from the domain magle.dk, it is not possible to register an account on Magle International Music Forums using a Comcast email address (as you will not receive the activation email).

We feel this a very bad policy by Comcast, but there is nothing we can do fix this problem. We urge all Comcast users to sign up with a different email address.

Sorry for the inconvenience.

I recently signed up & activated using a Comcast email address.

However, so far I can neither upload an avatar nor edit my posts - maybe related to Comcast situation?

Try a gmail , yahoo, Hotmail account..all free

I switched to my gmail account and absolutely no improvement - still unable to edit posts or upload avatar. Domain workings perhaps require a judicious squirt of WD-40.

Trying to access my 'general settings', 'profile' and 'avatar' all lead me to this brick wall:

[h=2]vBulletin Message[/h]Boot, you do not have permission to access this page. This could be due to one of several reasons:

  1. Your user account may not have sufficient privileges to access this page. Are you trying to edit someone else's post, access administrative features or some other privileged system?
  2. If you are trying to post, the administrator may have disabled your account, or it may be awaiting activation.

I participate in forums based in Europe, UK and the U.S., (most being vBulletin framework) as well as having been a moderator one of the largest Astronomy forums on Earth - and nowhere else have I encountered issues such as these. Methinks site-management doesn't have a handle on settings. Makes for a needlessly frustrating experience, and likely explains the dirth of activity herein, for I see many members' posts similar to mine going back at least five years. Too bad - I had high hopes. However, I'll wait awhile to see if things get straightened out. Fingers crossed, but breath not being held.

P.S. I'd edit out that errant "[/quote]", but I can't edit my own posts. ohmy.gif

Thanks for the reply, Bill.

Well, all I can say is that I have uploaded avatars via these same emails to many other forums with no issues.

And with all this discussion about my issues, this is the first time I've seen mention of a post limit regarding editing ability. I notice that posts to this particular thread do not accumulate in one's post-count? - odd. If the '10 post minimum' is the cause of my editing issues, I guess that will all come out in the wash.

Lastly, inasmuch as I had zero problem registering to this forum via my COMCAST email account, would not it be a good idea, in the interest of acuracy, to edit the original post here? Not that I'm a big fan of Comcast - actually I can't stand the company - but in all fairness, the opening statement in this thread is simply no longer untrue.

Well what d'ya know... I just made my eleventh post and - VOILA! I am now a proud member of the "Editors' Club". So, Bill, looks like you are right, Sir. To put a bit finer point on it, it's "Once you exceed 10 posts" you gain the ability to edit. Thank whomever, I thought something was wrong with me... (which very likely is still the case).

Hmmmm... question.gif I'm wondering... I must go and check to see if I've also gained any magical "Avatar" super powers.

No go. But I got a little further. It now allows me to get as far as selecting a file from my pc - but when I hit 'Save' I get UNABLE TO SAVE IMAGE.

(And the pixel dimensions and file size are both less than the maximum allowed)

Who knows.... probably not even the Shadow knows.

yes I have had to edit photos etc to match required size in any sites. I use my paint and photo editing app to change the size..save it and then can upload to the other site.

I've done all the resizing and still no go. Tried the exact size, a bit smaller, .png, .jpg, .bmp - won't take it. No biggie, I'm sure it'll get sorted down the road.

Hey! If that's all I have to worry about... I'm doin' pretty good.

Until a new member has completed at least 10 postings access to their profile and other privileges are restricted.

Yes, they are all free ... but if the person accesses gmail, yahoo and/or hotmail using Comcast servers, there can be a problem. Changing the email address does not change the origination of the internet connection.

For example, I too have a gmail address ... I access it through my Qwest DSL internet connection.

In the interest of accuracy, I just want to make it clear. Apparently something has changed in the 20 months since the original post, because now it is possible to register with Comcast; as this is exactly how I registered and subsequently received my activation email - via Comcast.

Like all good things we hope this becomes the norm for Comcast users from this point going forward.

Comcast is a waste of time, they are taking our hard earned cash and putting it straight towards building churches and cemeteries in northern Ireland. I don't know about you but I find that to be sickening
