• Welcome to the Pipe Organ Forum! This is a part of the open community Magle International Music Forums focused on pipe organs (also known as "church organs"), organists, organ music and related topics.

This forum is intended to be a friendly place where technically advanced organists and beginners (or even non-organists) can feel comfortable having discussions and asking questions. We learn by reading and asking questions, and it is hoped that the beginners (or non-organists) will feel free to ask even the simplest questions, and that the more advanced organists will patiently answer these questions. On the other hand, we encourage complex, technical discussions of technique, music, organ-building, etc. The opinions and observations of a diverse group of people from around the world should prove to be interesting and stimulating to all of us.

As pipe organ discussions can sometimes become lively, it should be pointed out that this is an open forum. Statements made here are the opinion of the poster, and not necessarily that of the forum itself, its administrator, or its moderators.

In order to post a new topic - or reply to existing ones - you may join and become a member by clicking on Register New User. It's completely free and only requires a working email address (in order to confirm your registration - it will never be given away!). We strive to make this a friendly and informative forum for anyone interested in pipe organs and organ music.

Wind Indicator Lamp Once GO Fully Loaded?

I am revisiting one of my VPO organ consoles, and I am thinking about enclosing the computer within the console so that it cannot be seen. When I power on the console, the PC starts up and loads GO automatically. I would prefer not to have a monitor when the console is being played, which means I will not be able to see once GO is fully loaded and ready. So it would be nice if GO could somehow trigger a MIDI or Windows event once all of the samples have been loaded that would light a wind indicator lamp to let me know the console is ready to play. Any suggestions?

Thanks,
Jay

There is no explicit support for this.

GO sends it state via MIDI, when it is ready. The various combinations panels contains a few buttons, which are turned on after load, so you could add a MIDI send to it.

Hi Jay,

It would be an easy option to play a sound (eg from a doorbell) as soon as the organ has fully loaded.
I tried this on a disposition that already has an effect manual (Kalvträsk from Lars Palo), it's working fine.
As soon as the organ is ready a clear ring will sound once.

Please see attached piece of ODF code and the sound that I used.
Don't forget to increase the number of stops and add the stop in the effect manual section.

Hope this helps,

As a follow-up to this discussion, is there a way to use a midi input to cause GO to execute an orderly exit? I am building a VPO which I would prefer to have no monitor or keyboard installed (once setup and development are complete).

GO is crash-safe - there is no need to exit it orderly.

For GO Live, there is even no "normal" shutdown. It includes a shutdown icon - but this just switches the power off.

Thank you e, that is good to know! I have enough heartbreak with Linux programs that leave little bits of files everywhere and get very cranky if they are not cleaned up. I plan to use a Live / nosave type installation, and knowing that GO itself is robust makes me much more comfortable.
