Artie Shaw & Gramercy 5

The Artie Shaw Story, a movie, is one of the best ones I've ever seen,
because there's so much Artie Shaw and his orchestra in it.
I'm glad I saw that first,
because when I saw a documentary about him with lots of personal interviews,
I could appreciate why he moved across the ocean and stopped performing in public.
Now I'm going to switch plugs from my CD player to my computer, and be back to comment on the vid.

"When the quail come back to San Quentin", yeah, I forgot about that one.

It's nice to hear the players set each other up when they exchange solos,
and that muted trumpet player was right up there too.
I'm not sure if this is mild jive or slow swing.

And if I wasn't using a five-spring tremolo arm with two way adjustable bridges for each string,
trying to get my clarinet influence, it won't mean a thing.

When my one cousin, known as the beer drinker in all our clan, bought a bar,
he called it Scuttlebut's, more of a sports thing.

I'd rather visit Artie at his ocean-side mansion, I think in Spain.
Even if we just both sat there, rocking on his porch. I'd be quiet.
I never learned how to reed.
