The "War Requiem" by Benjamin Britten. What a great piece!
Brigadoon - I might be MD'ing that later in the year...
NEB Brigadoon's a show I've conducted before, loved every bar. Such lush writing for the strings. You need some very fine first fiddles, let me tell you.
I've been listening to Vivaldi (on the radio) a reinterpretation of Spring for the Dresden orchestra (with delightful brass and woodwind bits added, baroque ones of course)
Hi CT,
I love that show, it's really well written. In fact I love many of these old musicals and I'm always happy to MD for any of the musicals. An awful lot of hard work but then again the rewards in pure pleasure are boundless.
Sunday morning, a very little piece of light in the grey sky, peace in heart and Brahms 1.st symphony on the turntable.

Brahms 2nd Symphony.
Schumann's 1. string quartet with Zehetmair on a fine ECM cd. Oh these small changes in rythm, it shimmers more like impressionisme than romantic.
I ended up putting on Toccata and Fuge in D Minor at work today, while I was closing the store.
Played by Frederik Magle.![]()
One of the best, now nearly forgotten conductors. Eugene Jochum with Bruckner's 3. symphony.
Please remembers his Brahms, LvB, Haydn, Mozart, Bach, etc.
Another forgotten master is Rudolf Kempe.
Many others from that time cannot match these two great musicians, but their PR department is stronger. Dare I say ??? No I dare notmention what I think.
Anyway: Listen to Jochum and Kempe and you are in the right direction of the heart of music.![]()
"Die Lustige Witwe" by Franz Lehar.
schumann, Kreisleriana, op 16., i must have listened to #7 about 100 times this week already. love it.
Schubert for 2 pianos, and the pianists are Britten and Richter. A record in its own league. Don't miss it!!!
