What classical music did you listen to today?

Just can't agree about Glenn Gould, if they'd only wired his mouth shut before recording sessions I'd agree. His constant huming, singing and moaning alone drives me nuts IMHO

West Point in Upstate New York by the Hudson River is the Academy for the US Army. Annapolis in Maryland is where the Academy for the US Navy is located. I wonder if that JSBach piece you're listening to is/was played by an amateur organist on Youtube...

Listening to Bach played on the monster at West Point Naval Academy (USA). What a marvellous organ for sure.

Hi Corno,
Do you recommend Gergiev's Mahler? It is on my amazon wishlist but i have other stuff to buy right now.Do you think one should hear it as soon as possible?

Back on topic:Beethoven's Piano Sonata No.14 "Moonlight" played by Anne Oland.A pleasant surprise i like it better than the Gould version.

Hi Master Kromme,

I, unequivocally yes, recommend Gergiev's Mahler. Man, Gergiev brought a whole new view of Mahler to me.

Humbly,

The West Point CD I was listening to is most certainly NOT played by an amateur. It's a commercially available CD that I think I bought from Gothic.com. Wonderful organ, huge.

Oh - the organist's name is Dettra (my spelling might be wayward). As to if its in upstate NY or in Maryland, not sure, don't care particularly. I'll try and remember to have a read of the sleeve notes tonigth ... however, my dementia prone brain might very well derail that.

Hi CT64,

I met Lee Dettra many years ago - quite an affable chap - the organ at West Point is quite the monster that speaks into an acoustically drab space - all that damn blasted Guastavino Tile which they have covered the walls and ceiling there and which just sucks up the sound.

Cheers,

CD :):):):)
