• Welcome to the Pipe Organ Forum! This is a part of the open community Magle International Music Forums focused on pipe organs (also known as "church organs"), organists, organ music and related topics.

This forum is intended to be a friendly place where technically advanced organists and beginners (or even non-organists) can feel comfortable having discussions and asking questions. We learn by reading and asking questions, and it is hoped that the beginners (or non-organists) will feel free to ask even the simplest questions, and that the more advanced organists will patiently answer these questions. On the other hand, we encourage complex, technical discussions of technique, music, organ-building, etc. The opinions and observations of a diverse group of people from around the world should prove to be interesting and stimulating to all of us.

As pipe organ discussions can sometimes become lively, it should be pointed out that this is an open forum. Statements made here are the opinion of the poster, and not necessarily that of the forum itself, its administrator, or its moderators.

In order to post a new topic - or reply to existing ones - you may join and become a member by clicking on Register New User. It's completely free and only requires a working email address (in order to confirm your registration - it will never be given away!). We strive to make this a friendly and informative forum for anyone interested in pipe organs and organ music.

    Many kind regards

Farewell, Panos!

Yesterday, our community lost one of its most faithful contributors, Panos Ghekas. I cannot think of a time that he did not respond to any question posted on this forum. He helped in any way he could. Rest in peace, my friend!

The jOrgan community is also in mourning, as we also have lost a great encourager and contributor. Let us find consolation in the music and sounds which inspired Panos, and find there glimpses of a glorious eternity awaiting us.

Panos and I have worked together on VPOs for over 3 years. He was at the heart of the Maltese Historic Pipe Organs Project and was full of hope towards it achieving success. Sadly, he died too soon having managed to create one VPO and only half of another. I shall miss him terribly.

The second VPO, soon to be published, is that of Fontana (Gozo). Only a few weeks ago, Panos sent me a number of folder with wav files he had just processed for the extended set. Alas, they were to be his last as his devastating illness consumed him in under 6 weeks! I did have the good fortune of getting Graham Goode to continue the work that Panos had started, and this with Panos' personal approval.

Fontana VPO will be dedicated to the memory of Panos Ghekas who was so happy with the quality and progress that we were achieving, capturing the unique character of some of the ranks of this organ. The sampleset will have an info file with a tribute to Panos and the 3 pieces he planned to record to showcase this organ will instead be played by Adriano Morea who accepted to record the pieces in his honour.

I sincerely hope that Panos' enthusiasm will be shared by all those who support the MHPO project and that his last opus will prove to be a resounding success as he envisaged.

Very sad to hear about Panos. We had a number of online conversations over the last years. Will miss his input. I pray for his soul and his family. May he R.I.P.

This is very sad news to learn of. Panos remains a very gifted individual in our minds having been such a great contributor of information here on Magle International Music Forums. We will all miss his presence.

Rest in peace, dear Panos. You have left a wonderful legacy for all of us to enjoy for many years to come.
