Hello, everyone! (anyone remember Karl Haas warmly greeting his listeners with that? I miss him!). I'm American, now in St. Louis, though hope to move back home to New York State within a year or so. Nearly lifelong listener to classical music in which frankly there is not much I won't listen to from early music to the most experimental. In my early adult years I seriously erred in thinking Mahler and Wagner horrible composers - I shudder to think about it - now they are in my Top Ten. I like to think I learned a lesson from that and try to refrain from strong negativity. I'm esp. fond of things French. And Brahms, naturally. My latest 'discovery' is Miaskovsky, whose symphonies affect me strongly. Thanks for having me on MIMF! :D

Welcome to the forums. Hopefully you will find plenty of pieces and references for you to continue your listening activities. Do you play any instruments? Vocal ? Take care

Thanks, Bill! I played guitar for many years and switched to mando recently but can't really make the fingers do what they used to do. Prob. go back to guitar soon. I also enjoy singing French & German art songs, but only for meself (until someone discovers me!).

Welcome aboard to the forum :)

I too have adapted to liking a few composers here later in life that I detested early on. I believe in second chances ... and that my tastes change over time.

Thank you, Kh! Using music one dislikes at first or even second offers interesting possibilities for self exploration - wonder if anyone talks about that in the "literature," 😯Used to visit my sister in Tucson two decades ago when she lived there. Very friendly town, I thought, with folks saying hello for no reason but to be pleasant.
