The "scanning" and redistribution of copyrighted music is illegal. All of the printed works of the composers you mention are still well within copyright protection and will be for many years, possibly into the next century. Open your wallet - pay for those pieces like all honest people do.

Paying a few dollars for a music score is much better than paying thousands of dollars in fines and/or spending years in jail behind bars for not heeding copyright laws.

Also just because something is out of print does not mean it is no longer copyrighted!!

There is, however, a plethora of Public Domain music available at IMSLP.org.

I agree. Pay for the music. The cost of music is insignificant compared to the enjoyment of learning it and playing it. Those who write/wrote the music deserve to have enough money to pay for groceries, too.

I agree, BUT a lot of sites sell scores (sheet music) - without any informations about the real content, and without the first page scan, so you can't really know what you are buying. (They just show the title page... what an effort !! ) In case of copyrighted music with opus number, it is easy, and it's normal to pay for the music; but when you search for transcriptions or arrangements, it is risky to buy with no garanty about the quality or the serious of the arranger ... trust me, I lost a lot of money saerching for the best transcription of Bach's chacony BWV 1004 ... sometimes, I bought some score I could have made myself ... and I could have made better !! This is the problem with internet : You can't turn the pages. In a real music-shop, you can !

The Bach BWV 1004 is public domain . . . available on the IMSLP.org site I mentioned earlier: BWV 1004

You might also check with your local university if it has a music department library. Our does and has a plethora of out of print (copyrighted) music available to borrow for several weeks at a time.

Also contact your church organists in your region. Some may have this music and allow you to use it for a little while.
