Longest Composition?

Hi
Ok a little bit of fun with a serious side to it in that this is one of those questions that I just can't get out of my head. Does anyone know who of the well known progressive rock bands can claim to have produced the longest composition?

Thick As A Brick is essentially one song filling both sides of an LP, about 45 minutes - by Jethro Tull in 1972.

I am not sure if Queen count as progressive rock or not - but Bohemian Rhapsody was 6 minutes in length and I am sure some of their work on "A night at the Opera" was longl.

Queen might fall under the Orchestral Rock. I think the longest track that I've got down anywhere is Autobahn by Kraftwerk at a measly 22:30, nothing in comparison with the full Thick as a Brick.

hi everyone.

The longest one i have heard is Light of day, day of darkness by Green Carnation, clocking in at a massive 60 mins, it is a really good song which never gets boring which is impressive in it self due to it's length, those who haven't heard should.

Tales from Topographic Oceans, by Yes, is a double-album LP (4 sides) and contains 4 track (1 per LP side).

Can't think of any other album quite like it apart, perhaps, from Mike Oldfield's early work like Tubular Bells, Ommadawn, Hergest's Ridge, Incantations). Oldfield usually only had two tracks per LP (i.e. one on each side).

Best wishes

On the King Crimson Live at The Zoom Club (1972, by the way the debut live performance by the "Larks' Tongues in Aspic" lineup of Crimso) there is an improv track called "Improv: Zoom Zoom" which is 44 minutes long.
Anyway, the longest on LP track has got to be Karn Evil 9 (29.37).

I thought of Mike Oldfields Tubular Bells.
I wasn't actually a great fan of him or his music but I seem to remember when I was introduced to it many years ago that it was known as one of the longest compositions up to that date anyway. That would have been late 80's.
