I was listening to this soundtrack today at work. Mostly because it was a long time since i heard it and because i really like it.
I would say that this is one of his best works, eventhough its not very new. It probably makes the top-ten of Zimmer-Albums :)
What do you guys think? Heard it?
I recommend you give it a listen if you haven't.

Hello Frederik

I have not actually heard that filmtrack, but I think I will give it a try. Is it something I could get from i-Tunes?

I first came across Hans Zimmer when watching Gladiator and then realised that he had done the scores for many films that I like. Lisa Gerrard's vocals on Gladiator are particularly haunting.

Do you have a list of Zimmer's work?

Backdraft: Superb Score

I like the soundtrack to Backdraft a lot. I'm a great fan of Zimmer's music and I think he has a fantastic style. I would recommend the following scores too:

  • Crimson Tide
  • King Arthur
  • Pearl Harbour
  • Rain Man
  • Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron
  • The Last Samurai
  • The Power of One
  • The Prince of Egypt
  • The Rock

Hans Zimmer Scores

Hi Frederik, Yes, all those scores you mentioned are great! The reasons why I didn't include them in my list of recommendations are because The Lion King had many songs by Elton John to complete the score, Gladiator I attribute much to Lisa Gerrard (she not only did the vocals but really influenced the sound of the score), Broken Arrow I was not so keen on personally as a Zimmer score, Toys I've not intently listened to the soundtrack of (I thought the film was poor), and finally Thin Red Line is one I should have included, it's very good - especially 'Journey To The Line', which I find moving. If you like Hans Zimmer, you should also check out Klaus Badelt who worked at Media Ventures, a company Zimmer helped setup as a 'one stop shop for producers'.

Im way ahead of you ;)
I do listen to Klaus Badelt aswell.
But fact is that Zimmer is my all time favorite filmscore-composer.
What irritates me about Badelt is that he got most of the credit for the soundtrack of Pirates of The Caribbean, which Hans Zimmer was also involved in. You can clearly hear the Zimmerism within those songs.

But Badelt do some really nice stuff. For example the soundtrack of The Time Machine. Very nice indeed.

Klaus Badelt

Yeah, the Time Machine is a truly remarkable score by Badelt. I think it was proof that Badelt had (finally) stepped from the mighty shadow of Zimmer and I can only see his work improving. You should listen to The Widow Maker too, it has some incredible themes such as 'Reunion'. Enjoy!
