    Mystery Chorale

    Greetings to all ...

Trying to identify the title of this 'mystery chorale' an acquaintance sent me in hopes that I could possible identify the tune.

The tune was composed by Henry Thomas Smart (1813-1879) in the last 3 years of his life, most likely transcribed by someone else as Henry lost his sight in 1864.

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Mystery Chorale Update

After an exhaustive search spanning several months, including back and forth communication with the actual church where Henry Smart served as organist in England, our hypothesis is that this "mystery chorale" was a made up melody and used in his "Chorale with Variations" for organ, composed in 1876. There are 7 movements (6 variations and Finale) in the piece.

    Another musical mystery mostly solved.
