John Rutter (b 1945) A dynamic and inspirational composer.
Absolutely love his Requiem and Te Deum for choir ... we have done these at church in past years. Beautiful works!

... as well as an underrated symphony and cello concerto.

Sir John Tavener (born 1944 London), known for his accessible contemporary works such as The Protecting Veil.

I guess there are no "U" names for English composers, so to best keep this moving along, I suggest we move on to "V" - ok with everyone?

Ian Venables (b. 1955, Liverpool) Has a broad romantic and tonal style and seems to be an upcoming and forthright composer in Worcester

William Walton. People write curious things in CD sleeve notes. In a recording of Walton's first symphony, the author writes: "Walton was only 30 when he came to write his First Symphony, yet it marks the peak of his career." I guess this implies that the composer went down hill after he reached that age.

Wow! We're on a roll
Maurice Emmanuel (1862-1938). He wrote a doctoral thesis called "Essay on Greek dance." Then completed numerous books, including biographies of Berlioz and Franck, along with a history of the musical language. Was professor of the history of music at the Conservatoire, where he taught Olivier Messiaen.

I enjoy his symphonies, such as the number 2 called "Bretonne," and hope to hear more of his music.:)

What? No takers for Fiji?

We are talking country of birth, right? That disqualifies Hahn, but I can post French-born Swiss composer
Arthur Honegger, 1892-1955.
