Music Writers Duo - Game

Hello all

If we consider all types of music, there have been many great song-writing partnerships. I thought that it would be quite fun to see how many partnerships that we can name from all types of music - theatre and musicals, pop, rock, jazz, rap etc.

Please name a writing duo and one of their songs/pieces of work (perhaps with a reason for you picking that) and let's see how many we can come up with.

I'll make a start:

Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice - "Don't Cry for me Argentina" from Evita

Chris Difford and Glenn Tilbrook - "Take Me, I'm Yours"

First thing that I ever heard by the sublime Squeeze and it remains an all-time favourite. Pub-rock band plays Kraftwerk, brilliant.

That's a good one as I really liked Squeeze. Ok, here is another one:

Benny Andersson and Bjorn Ulvaeus - "Dancing Queen" by Abba

The song reminds me of the school disco and happy times.

OK, I'll do one more before somebody else has a go:

George and Ira Gershwin - "Summertime" by Paul Robeson

Robeson has the most fabulous Bass voice and does wonders with the brilliant Summertime. I thought that I'd heard Willard White sing it as well but can find no record of it. Does anybody know of it or have I been imagining things again?

Elton John and Bernie Taupin - Daniel

There are so many good songs to chose from but I like the soulfull sound of Daniel.

This is fun! I am going to go for the rather obvious partnership of

John Lennon and Paul McCartney and "Hey Jude" - because I like the fact that the song is quite hopeful and gets progressively louder.

I like this one: some good combinations so far. I will pick one out of the blue:

Stephen Morrissey and Johnny Marr - 'This Charming Man' by the Smiths

I loved the back to basics rockabilly at the beginning of the Smiths and this was a classic.

Jerry Lieber and Mike Stoller - Jailhouse Rock by Elvis Presley.

Elvis turned into a parody of himself but Jailhouse Rock was as raunchy as hell. This is where all that followed, ermmm... followed.

Wow that's a good one!

How about...Neil Tennant and Chris Lowe (a.k.a The Pet Shop Boys) - West End Girls, which was their first major hit (and number 1).

Mick Jagger and Keith Richards - '(I Can't Get No) Satisfaction' by the Rolling Stones.

Hell, after the Beatles vs the Stones debate I can't see how you can leave out the one whilst name-checking the other. 'Satisfaction' was genuinely great and lyrically thoughtful.

I would like to add the successful pairing of:

Guy Chambers and Robbie Williams - "Angels" sung by Robbie Williams.

The song seems to appear at so many weddings, birthday parties and even funerals, but it is still a song of hope and love.
