I reecntly listened Klemperers version of Mahlers 2nd symphony and formed a very high opinion of it but some customer rewievers at amazon.com think this is a lackluster performance.I wonder your opinions on this recording and waiting your advices for other versions of this magnificent piece
Out of 4 versions i listened
1-Klemperer
2-Jansons
3-Tennstedt
4-Bernstein for me.What do you think?

I've been a Mahler fan since my teens and am now begining to get even more fimiliar with his music. I'm going to buy Klemperer's 2nd soon enough, you can find it so reasonably priced. Many still love the recording, especially now that EMI 'Abbey Road' has patched up the sound. I'm also curious about Fischer's new recording.

I love Klemperer's 1961-1962 recording with Elisabeth Schwarzkopf and Hilde Rössl-Majdan and his Philharmonia Orchestra and Chorus. I do prefer the older (1989) CD reissue to the current one, though, it sounds more natural to me.

I also have István Fischer's recent recording, but have played it only once, so I can't really comment.

Klemperer's studio Mahler 2 is one of the better ones out there; I don't know how it could be considered otherwise. (There's also a live recording of him leading the work with a different orchestra - EMI hasn't reissued it in a while.)

As to other good ones:

Bernstein - DG, 1980s recording. It's a stunner, and better than his first recording on CBS. Haven't heard his second recording (out on DVD) yet.

Michael Tilson Thomas - SFS Media. An amazing recording, with Lorraine Hunt Lieberson delivering an awesome solo part. Superb sound, too.

Pierre Boulez - DG. This has received mixed reviews, but the precision and coolness work for me.
