My name is Dave. I live in Indiana, USA. I have played the organ for 13 years. I started on the organ, then the synthesizer, now working on the piano (partly under pressure from the elders and the minister of music).

My training came from an organ teacher who was an organist first, piano second. His system was based upon the Berklee School of Music/Joseph Schnilinger System of Music.

I would like some tips on playing the piano given that I have an organ and synthesizer background. Do I play the chords in similar fashion?

Hi Dave ... welcome to MIMF.

The main difference from organ to piano are the controls ... with the piano you now have only 3 pedals, (Gas, Brake and Clutch) instead of 32! :p
Just kidding ... a little organist humor  there!

The playing technique is different ... on the piano the wrists are high instead of low, although there has been a good amount of debate on that subject.
A good amount of piano music can be easily converted to organ, but not the other way around in most cases.

I'm not sure I understand your statement about chords being played in the same fashion. A C major chord is a C major chord ... the manner in which that chord is produced (electronics, wind pressure or a hammer striking a string) is about the only major difference.

I enjoy the piano about as equally as the organ, although I started out piano first before I was "allowed" to progress to the organ.

I applaud your 13 years of dedication to the organ ... I assume that you are a church organist then, since the MM and Elders are requesting you to be more agile at the piano? This is good, actually ... at my church I play for 2 traditional services with organ and one contemporary service on piano each Sunday ... it's good to be flexable these days.

Enjoy the forums here ... and best of all, have fun.
