Great Actress / Singer

I was wondering. do you think it's possible to be a great actress & a singer
at the same time. And which female actress/singer do you think has the best
acting AND singing talent?


I started thinking about this after I found out that Jennifer Landon
(daughter of Michael Landon of 'Highway to Heaven', 'Little House on the
Prairie', & 'Bonanza' fame) who followed her dad's acting career and really
did well in the daytime soap AWS (As the World Turns) went on to launch a
singing career. I believe she only has 1 song out right now, called Slide,
but it's really good. You can check it on iTunes if you like.

Hmmmm, that's a tough one. And to be honest it's rare for a successful actress/singer to come out and try their luck in singing or acting. I mean, I can give you a few names that did horribly easily... but that came out successful?

Well, Bete Midler did well! I love her as an actress and she's great as a singer as well, but didn't 'come out' too popular, or I just wasn't born yet... haha.

Whitney Houston I think didn't do a bad job acting and most certainly had a tremendous voice. J-Lo? questionable with a big Q. One thing for sure is tha Julie Andrews scores well on both counts and that was in the days when it was more important to have natural talent rather these days when a computer can take out a great many imperfections.

One of the best singers to grace the big screen is Barbra Streisand; given the limited acting ability of many who double, then I'd suggest that she's one of the best actors too.

Of course there's always Julie Andrews and she's had enough roles to suggest that she's not just limited to sugar-sweet roles.

Actually, from the more popular music world, I'd add Cher – great pop voice and not a bad acting talent either.

She really was no great actor, but I love watching Ethel Merman, while the only man who ever came close that really big Broadway style, in my opinon, was the late, truly great Robert Preston.

Now Preston was a genuinely good and versatile actor, with a solid theatre grounding, and, if he wasn't the greatest singer in a serious way, he could put a song across superbly.

If anyone doubts that, watch The Music Man and Victor/Victoria and listen to Mack & Mabel and I Do, I Do.

Beat me to it with Julie Andrews, but there are so many more to list. People you might not think of: Elaine Stritch, Lucy Lawless (Xena), Bernadette Peters, Mylie Cyrus (did I spell that correctly? - young uns'll know), C. Zeta Jones, Madonna, just to name a few.

Anything is possible, why not capitalize on the talent if you've got it?

I definitely agree. Madonna and Miley Cyrus are both amazing actresses/singers. They really show that people in the enterainment industry don't have to be confined to a single box, so to speak.
