    Recommend me a song....

ok, I dont know much about music, making it or reading it or even finding it, but when I can its really nice...

ok, this might sound weird but can anyone recommend me a peice that is... slow and calming, the kind of song that makes you stop and observe things around you because it just brings out a natural beauty in everything, but at the same time a sort of peaceful tragic feeling looms over it.

Ever once hear a peice that made you cry because it just made you feel the moment so well, it wasnt telling you a story or expressing any one emotion, just brining out many of them at one time?

I dont know how to describe it.. something like Bach's Air,
    but..not quite..

I really like baroque music by the way, I just dont know how to find what I like just yet!
    thank you!

    Re: Recommend me a song....

Perhaps the Largo from Dvoràks 12 string quartet "The American" would do it? It has a slow pace, with a constant pizzicato beat by, I think, the cello and a beautyfull melody line over it.
On a not so quiet note, but very dramatic would be Schuberts "Death and the Maiden" string quartet D810. It has a slow movement as well, the Andante, which starts very slow, and picks up a bit pace later on... with the violin hovering above a kind of sea of sound, and here too a kind of soft beat produced by a pizzicato on (is it?) the cello. I like the faster parts better... they can awaken quite some emotion out of one too.

Hi vanessa, and welcome to the forums

I'm not sure if you're asking for a song (with lyrics) or "just" a piece of music...?
But if the lyrics are allowed in the song you're looking for, I can surely recommend you to listen to the song called: "Those who were". Check out the thread "JAZZ! - this is one of my favorites!" in the next forum "Electronica, Rock, Jazz....." for further information. This song contains the emotions you're talking about.

Piano Concerto No.2 in C minor by Rachmaninoff is the first instrument music which made me cry. Recently, I was moved by Shostakovich's String quartets

One of my favorites is Fugue in D minor. Lovely piece.

Yup. J.S. Bach. Have you heard it? It was played in The Phantom of The Opera. The piece touches my soul everytime I hear it.

Hmm... I'm not sure... perhaps... - "Fugue in D-minor" is a quite common title in the baroque period (all or most of the contents of J.S. Bach's "Die Kunst der Fuge" is in D-minor as far as I remember ). Do you have a BWV number og something to identify it?

Yeah you are right. I can send you an mp3 via e-mail or I can post it here...but I think it might be to large. It's the orchestral version, but I personally like the one written for organ.

Oh! Toccata and Fugue in D-minor is the name. I forgot the most important part! So sorry. You know of Toccata correct?

    Re: Recommend me a song....

Ah... that made a little more sence...
Yeah I know it... Frederik has also a couple of recordings he's made of it somewhere around here.

You should also try to listen to some of the Bach Transcriptions made by Arnold Schönberg for (large) orchestra. They are really quite good.

Which version is it you have on mp3 with an orchestra? who's playing/conduting?

    Re: Recommend me a song....

Really? Toccata is a bit edgy too. But to me, it's very comforting.

Really? They sound nice from what you tell me. I'll have to check them out

It's played by Integrated Students' Winds, and is conducted by Tohru Takahashi, the size is 9.84 MB so I don't think I can post it. And it's about 10:30 secs. long.

    Yeah. Really.

    You'll do that.

Ok. Well, due to copyright reasons it wouldn't be possible at all for you to share it with the rest of us anyway.
Integrated Student's Winds? a symphonic wind ensemble? or?
