This can be a traditional food of your ethnic background, traditional of your country or state, simple, or even common junk food   . They don't have to be healthy ... just a favorite :smirk:

Favorite: Chicken Parmesan (I make this from scratch - scrumptious)

Least Favorite: Beets (eeeuuucchhhh):p

Hi Krummhorn,

I have to agree: beets are disgusting. I've hated them since I was a kid.

Favorites? That's much harder. A really well-made New England clam chowder has to be high on the list. But I also love spicy food, and a hot pork vindaloo is a real treat. The problem is, I like things fired up more than the rest of the family, so we usually have to compromise when I cook this stuff. Otherwise, my nine-year-old gives me a nasty look and won't touch it!

Take some cooked beetroots – dice if they're big, but don't worry if they're tiny cocktail beets. Pop them in a bowl. Segment a pink grapefruit or an orange and add to the bowl. Mix gently. Serve with a small dollop of creme fraiche and some chopped chives on top for a perfect, fresh side salad.

I thought that I'd be helpful to all the beetroot fans here. ;)

My favourite food is fish and seafood, including squid and scallops, mackerel, herring and sea bass.

Probably the best food that I've eaten was in Barcelona last year – bacalau (salt cod) with honey and pine nuts or in a paella pan with piles of peppers and garlic. Caramacitas (baby squid) done as battered rings or served as creamy white pockets, drenched in warmed garlic oil. Lobster – so fresh it was still aloive when I walked into the restaurant. Gamba (giant prawns) charred on a grill and served with a garlic oil. Glorious olives.

Least favourite? Umm. Processed junk. I'm not wildly keen on coriandar or aubergine, but will use them in certain dishes. Possibly the worst meal I've had was a Greek meal in Amsterdam, which was flavourless and colourless (the food look as though it had been bleached).

Hey, I like beets! That sounds delicious. I like borscht as well. :) I love fish too; there`s a new kind of fish being marketed here lately- tilapia. It`s nice. Is that squid dish similar to calamari?

So I guess we should avoid Greek food when in Amsterdam...

The battered squid rings is what, in the UK certainly, most people call calamari. In Spain, calamari simply means squid, while calarmacitas (spelling?) is baby quid.

Had a very good squid dish in Brighton last month, in a very good modern Italian restaurant (not too overpriced either, which is close to a miracle in Britain): baby squid with Italian sausage and borlotti beans, served on a bed of rocket.

So I guess we should avoid Greek food when in Amsterdam...

:D Certainly in the Jaardan where that restaurant was.

Uhuh, borscht ... prounouncing its name really slowly says it all for me ... vile stuff, at least for my palate .

Tilapia ... I had to look it up ... more about it here . A rather "unattractive" fish that probably deserves to be eaten ... ... I'll have to try some if I can find it in my region of the US.

Don't worry – you're not alone! Olives are wonderful and mushrooms, prepared properly, are brilliant too.

I rather like those vast Portabello mushrooms, popped under a grill, with a little thinly-sliced garlic and chilli on top, with a little butter and some olive oil.

You`ve got lots of company here, toe! I like olives on pizza as well, and on deviled eggs. I also like sautéed mushrooms served with steak, and pretty much anywhere, really.

Aren`t there any foods you don`t like, toejfb?

(Wot, you don`t like mushrooms, Kh?)

Nope - got that trait from my Mom ... rest of the family loves 'em. I also don't use butter or oleo - haven't since I was 13 - don't drink milk either ... but I do love cheese, especially Mozzarella and Provolone.

Mind, if you're in the UK, then you'd have to go some way before you found anything much better than new season lamb, roasted, with new potatoes and new season baby carrots and garden peas, with mint sauce to garnish. And followed, of course, by strawberries and Jersey cream. :p

How many of you like veggies dipped in a pancake like batter and fried?
That is what I thought I would have tonight. Georgia isn't
the only southern state. I have even had fried green
tomatos, pickled okra, southern fried chicken and not KFC
chicken. I mean the real Kentucky fried chicken that my
mother fixed. I know that some of you had onion rings.
I thought you could get them anywhere and fried sweet
peppers. Not the hot kind. They hurt me and are not
the right size.

Favorite food not from my home country: New Zealand Lamb Souvlaki.

Least favorite food: Yorkshire Pudding.

Sorry Ms. Margaret - hey, do you make Haggis? I really like it. I had it the first time about ten years ago when visiting a friend in Ft. William, Scotland.

Cheers,
