This month we will be featuring composers from the Renaissance era!

Here`s the idea- You, our members, vote for the composer whose work you think you might like to hear the most. Then I will post a work for us all to listen to by the 'winning' composer, which will be a surprise! Then we can all discuss the work at length. High points, low points, whatever.

Hope you`ll all participate! :)

If anyone has any suggestions for future polls for this new feature, send me a PM, and I`ll do my best to follow up on them.

This is really embarrassing, but I'm not familiar with any of those composers. Or perhaps I am without knowing it!

Would someone please recommend a piece by some - or all - of them, because then I might be able to pick it up. It will be a little bit tough on me to vote if all I have is a stack of random pieces (from which I have no idea where to start). Because I might pick up one of the worst pieces by one composer, and the best of another, by accident, and that would hardly be fair.

Great idea though, Rojo.. I'm sorry to barge in with such ignorance of the renaissance era.

Hi Thomas,

Well, I bet you do know some of these composers` works. But this poll is mainly just for fun, so vote for whoever you like based on whatever you like. But do it fast, because the poll closes very soon!

Maybe you could also start a new thread about Renaissance composers...

Glad you like the idea, and thanks for your interest!

Just so you know, next month we`ll do Baroque composers!

Can anyone identify this one as well?

The first video is Praetorius' arrangement from 1609 of »Es ist ein Ros entsprungen« (»Lo, How a Rose E'er Blooming«). One of the most beautiful Christmas hymns in my opinion, especially in Praetorius' arrangement.

I'm going to view/hear the second now (looks interesting :)).

Es ist ein Rose ensprungen - A Rose is Blooming - Christmas stuff for me.

Isn't the 2nd one from the French Dances on Terpishore?
I know Praetorius wrote a good number of 'dances', though some have later been determined to have not been penned by him or were works that he added inner voices to. Wonderful Brass ensemble - they certainly do play very well together.

Well done everyone; you`re all right. Here is what`s posted with the video-

6 französische Tänze aus "Terpsichore" (arr.Hermann Bäumer)

I`m afraid I don`t know which french dances from Terpsichore; maybe some early music buff can tell us.

For those interested, that was the Triton quartet.

Coming up soon- the next SWOTM poll! Stay tuned...
