• Welcome to the Pipe Organ Forum! This is a part of the open community Magle International Music Forums focused on pipe organs (also known as "church organs"), organists, organ music and related topics.

This forum is intended to be a friendly place where technically advanced organists and beginners (or even non-organists) can feel comfortable having discussions and asking questions. We learn by reading and asking questions, and it is hoped that the beginners (or non-organists) will feel free to ask even the simplest questions, and that the more advanced organists will patiently answer these questions. On the other hand, we encourage complex, technical discussions of technique, music, organ-building, etc. The opinions and observations of a diverse group of people from around the world should prove to be interesting and stimulating to all of us.

As pipe organ discussions can sometimes become lively, it should be pointed out that this is an open forum. Statements made here are the opinion of the poster, and not necessarily that of the forum itself, its administrator, or its moderators.

In order to post a new topic - or reply to existing ones - you may join and become a member by clicking on Register New User. It's completely free and only requires a working email address (in order to confirm your registration - it will never be given away!). We strive to make this a friendly and informative forum for anyone interested in pipe organs and organ music.

The Highland Cathedral

Hi from South Africa,

Oh I just love the church organ and any music written for it, from hymns right down to the great master works. I don't play the church organ myself - wish I could - but this is really an awesome instrument. I was looking for the sheet music for Highland Cathedral, but it seems a bit scarce. I was at a local music store the other day and what a surprise to find two cd's with some wonderful organ music on it. As you all know to find cd's with recordings of this awesome instrument is quite a mission. One of the pieces is a recording of Highland Cathedral amongst others! The artists is South African and the recordings was made at well known churches in South Africa. Here is a contact address for them.

www.select.co.za

The title of the cd's is Heavenly organ 1 and 2.
The cd no. are SELBCD 732 and SELBCD 793

I don't know if they will ship this items to oversea destinations but this I know, the copies is selling fast. We pay about R89.95 a cd which give you about $9.00 a cd.

In the meantime, if any one can help with a copy of the sheet music - it will be great.

Greetings, everyone!
I was wondering if any of you have had the chance to hear or play a piece for organ and bagpipes called The Highland Cathedral. It is my favorite piece of classical music but sadly is not very well known and the only good recording that I have located of it is currently "out of print". It is so beautiful and I'm wondering really how famous it is among other organists. The only good recording I know of is owned by our state's radio station, so I have to content myself with that. Looking foward to your anwers! Bill

Hi there. If you go to: http://www.mp3.com/artist/royal-scots-dragoon-guards/summary/?tag=download;play and play that, you'll here Highland Cathedral the way it was meant to be played. Unfortunately with no organ. This is an amazing album if you like the pipes and drums.
