This is when electronic music really hit the big time in 1979. Emotionless; minor keys; stark, violent, futuristic lyrics and relentless music. A complete change from everything that had gone before. Ultravox and Bowie had done some things and Kraftwerk were kings of twiddle but Numan made it his own - at least for a while. Don't mention the Sugarbabes.
On the side, he is an excellent punk guitarist.

Lousy live, though.
Personally, I thought then – and still do – that Ultravox and OMD were far, far better (although Kraftwerk were clearly in a class all of their own).
