It would be interesting to know what posters on this forum from the US think of this little episode.

    A paranoid overreaction?

A racist response – he looks a bit like the Virgina Tech killer, after all?

The antithesis of the First Amendment?

Imho, paranoya is settling in a bit too much these days here in the US. It seems, anything that can be labeled as 'distruptive' to the normal flow [nobody has defined yet what 'normal' is] puts everyone on a tightrope. Seems when someone connected with OPEC sneezes, our gas pump prices rise 13 cents overnight, because an oil official getting sick might curtail oil production for whatever reason.

We are getting much too jumpity ... 10 years ago things didn't appear to be like this, at least here in the US - I owe much of the jitters to the news media who constantly dig to find things that will make people jump out of their skin. Geez, whatever happened to all the good news. Well, that's the way I feel things are ... more comments from other US peeps?

Excellent point – and so relevant to so many situations.

    Good question....

Well for one I dont think it should have made it to the press room I hate 95 % of the midia thay just stir up crap and leave destroyed lives behind withought giving it a second thought.

But in the last two weeks im starting to see a turn around making things a bit more ballanced which is a start.

As far as that kids esay is concernd being arrested is just stupid its just the mentality that turns thees kids into othority haters.
Thay should have just taken him aside with no fuss had him interviwed by profeshional physcoligist along with mom and dad maby friends ect see what their like maby he needs to switch friends bad influance ect.and maby a three month follow up along with school counciling for a year.

If you dont know a kid and who he is a person in a year than you dont belong teaching.

Just my thought but there to stupid to figuar that out the reall issue is thay dont care to manny kids not enough teachers thay just want to pass theem through no one wants to be a mentor any more.

To your "me neither" I say "Nor I", or "Neither can I".

I also say that horrible horrible things happen in the world, and they aren't necessarily the fault of the government or the police or society. We can feel these things, we can acknowledge them, we can work to prevent them, but arguing about blame is a disservice to those who suffered.

    Ya right wake up!!!

There is no arguing from my end I know the truth unjustified police shootings would top what happend at this university and this happens everywere in America law inforcment is not what it used to be thay are in need of reform and thats a fact why do you think african americans are so fed up because the police dont do anything abought drug dealers but someone speeding are a refusal to stop during a trafic stop are just plain arguing with police oficer will get you shot thees days.

So thats society prison and jail are a buisness and thay need clients to make money and that is the sickest part of it all there awnser to everything here is prison..

Steall a peice of gum go to prison make money for the prison system all im saying is you keep that mentality up aresting people for stupid **** are harasing people than you are going to wind up with even more tragic events.

You think Americians are not capable of suicide bomings ?

Well we need to change corse and society is responsable for more than you are probly aware of do people have mental problems that dont have any thing to do with outside influance shure but im steping out on a limb and saying that will be the minority.

In any case loss of life no matter how it happens is tragic but my openion stands that 99% of it can be avoided by learning how to respect people and provide the proper care for troubled people.

    Oh, definitely.

But when people are that frustrated, you can see why they want guns... don't trust each other, don't trust the gov't.

One of my friends at the church I attend has a son that was a student there at VT. He was a good friend of one of those who was killed.

This young man has had quite an amazing couple years here lately. He spent a year in Afghanistan (he's w/ the VA National Guard). Then he arrives back in the States to go to VT when that massacre happens. And now, this coming Saturday (June 23), he and his VA NG unit heads off to Camp Shelby in southern MS for training prior to their being re-assigned to Iraq.

Keep this young man (his name is Keith) and his unit in your thoughts and prayers.
