    conductor questions

Why do conductors travel so much? Why don't they stay put where they are? Do they have much of a personal life, do they get married? Are they overworked?

I found a cool site about instrument jokes and there are some conductor jokes and they are really funny. I wonder how true they are?

    Hi janny,

Hope you don`t mind; the link you posted gave a 'page not found', so I edited it.

I think conductors are sometimes in charge of more than one orchestra, sometimes in other cities and countries. I`m going to assume that some have personal lives, and some are too busy. I don`t follow their personal lives, but I do know that one had been married and then got divorced.

Oh who was it? I think some people are sort of ridiculous because it seems like their life is somewhat sensational! LOL I would think it would be hard to be with someone who moved around frequently, it'd be hard to stay in a relationship. I guess it would be sort of like opera singers/musicians; some are married some are not for whatever reasons.

Herbert von Karajan. And yes, I would think the same. I thought this link was interesting, on conductors' longevity-

Sigh. Sounds like my dream job. Gorgeous music, long life, lots of excitement and travelling. Relationship difficulty seems a small price to pay.

Hmm interesting about the longevity thing. Maybe we can simulate workouts to be wanna be conductors? :.) There is a guy on youtube, can't remember his name just look under Mahler 8 and you can trace his user name to his videos.
    He's pretty good!

Hey, nobody`s stopping you. And it would make exercising to classical music very doable. You could call it 'Sweatin` to the old, old, oldies'.

And I know who you mean at youtube. He seems to have good taste in music, and really knows the works too. He even does four part arrangements of himself singing major works. Not too shabby, considering.

zlya - Well, get busy learning the repertoire...
