The right tempo for the final of Saints-Saens' 3d Organ Symphony.

Hello to the forum. What in your opinion is the right tempo for the final of the 3d Symphony.I have four recordings, the slowest (Maurice Durufle-Goerge Pretre) is 8:56,(EMI Best 100 Classics) 8:08,(Imrich Szabo-Stephen Gunzenhauser) 7:45,the fastest a Gemini recording 7:15.The Maurice Durufle recording is favourate, although too slow for some people, the musical quality of the recording is superb, something I find lacking in some modern recordings. The Gemini recording is way too fast.Anything below eight minutes is too fast in my opinion.

    Hi Caddis ...

I really enjoy the majestic tempo of Durufle/Pretre (EMI) performance the best. I've heard the faster versions, and they seem just too rushed ... the grandeur of the King of Instruments is lost in such hurried tempos, imho.

DOOOON'T!! Arrgh - too late! There I was thinking we were safe what with the Saint-Saens being mentioned elsewhere in several other threads and no-one mentioning the pig. Someone had to go and stuff it up didn't they?! SIGH!

Ignore me, I'm just being silly.
