Hi jan,
I`m not sure I understand your question; the movie The Mission is inspired by historical events, not a classical piece, as far as I know. And yes, the music from the film is by Ennio Morricone; I think the most famous piece from it is Gabriel`s Oboe.
''Music, I feel, should be emotional first and intellectual second.'' - Maurice Ravel
''The greatest education in the world is watching the masters at work.'' - Michael Jackson
I think Sarah Brightman sings the same song, that's why I was curious of the song's name.

From wikipedia-
'Nella Fantasia" ("In My Fantasy") is an Italian song based on the theme "Gabriel's Oboe" from the film The Mission (1986). With music by famed composer Ennio Morricone and lyrics by Chiara Ferraù, "Nella Fantasia" is popular among classical crossover singers, and has been performed by numerous artists and groups such as Amici Forever, Celtic Woman (Chloë Agnew), Sarah Brightman, Garðar Thór Cortes, Il Divo and Russell Watson.'
So you`re right, it`s the same music.
''Music, I feel, should be emotional first and intellectual second.'' - Maurice Ravel
''The greatest education in the world is watching the masters at work.'' - Michael Jackson
Thanks, you did some research!

Also Paul Potts sings this on his "One Chance" album - absolutely gorgeous! I didn't know this was from The Mission until I saw Marricone conducting it on the Arts channel. If you haven't heard the Paul Potts album, do yourself a favor and get it - you'll play it over and over!
