And Now For Something Completely Different...

Welcome to the June edition of the New Horizons Music newsletter. What happened to May, you ask? There was the small matter of student assignments and exam marking....

Normal service has now resumed. This month's main article "And Now for Something Completely Different...." takes a fresh look at what to expect when you send your music for review. Secondly, we continue our series of artist interviews with Rob Fowler of Digital Chemistry to see what progress he's made with his debut album Machine Made Man. Lastly, we launch a 'Quick News' section for progressive musicians with something to announce. With no more ado, let the rhethoric begin....

    Hi Protos,

thanks for posting this here! Very interesting article ( as well as the previous one - that about music advertising ).

Wish you a good luck with the New Horizons Music,

    Thanks Andrew,

Always good to hear that the articles are interesting to others. It's not always easy to bear one's soul about the process of developing a public profile. On balance, however, it is useful to report back honestly on the downside as well as the upside of the experience. There's enough 'marketing speak' out there to last us a lifetime...

Are you writing music at the moment?

    Best wishes
    Rory

    Rory,

I also wish to echo my thanks for your interesting posts and the Newsletter article. Although not into rock or prog rock genre per se, I do enjoy keeping abreast of the entire music scene happening in the world today.

I wish you only the best on your new endeavors and your commitment to the musical community in the UK and here in the states.

    Hi Rory,

well, absolutely - composing music is fun, recording it is a job, selling it is a business. Every opinion ( even negative ) is somewhat important, and you could not be good for everyone. Great that you have time, talent and energy for it all.

I've just visited your site and listened to the samples from your albums ( sorry I am not sure anymore which of them were Protos and which of them your solo project ). I liked most of all the intro composition on your web site.
Would you want to put any of your music here in review forum? Just in case if you need more feedback...

I am presently trying to market and to promote my first solo CD NO TRESPASSING ( mastered 2007 ); and the work on the band album ( Black Forest Project ) where I play keyboards is in progress now ( it was an answer to your question, and thanks, that you asked ).

If you have an interest - I posted two pieces from my CD here

    http://www.magle.dk/music-forums/332...tracks-my.html

    and one more piece here

    http://www.magle.dk/music-forums/333...-all-good.html

Would be glad if you like them.

    Best regards from Germany,
    Andrew

If you went to www.roryridleyduff.com then the music would be from the solo albums (Protos has its own site at www.protosmusic.net and www.soundclick.com/protos.

I'm not sure if I've uploaded music here, but if not I'll do some of this in August when we're doing final production for the album. That would be a good time to get some quality feedback.

    Thanks for the comments.

Many thanks - I'll have a listen right now.

How are you promoting your new albums (through CD Baby, for example?)

    Good luck.

    Hi Rory,

you are welcome - don't forget to post it here when you'll need a feedback ( or a friendly critic ). I would willingly discuss your music and listen to it.

Actually I have only ONE new album which is my solo work, it is called NO TRESPASSING. The band album is expected to be finished till December 2007, as we all hope.

NO TRESPASSING is rather new - it was mastered in March 2007, I am trying to get the feedback and reviews in DE and abroad, and have just sent it to CDbaby - well, that's all at the moment.

    ... and many-many regards from Karlsruhe ( DE ),
    best wishes
    Andrew

    Hi Andrew,

Had a listen to 'Prelude'. Generally good, I thought, and captures the style of the era quite well. Only bit that didn't convince me (musically speaking) was the end. I'll have a listen to more of your stuff and get back to you again soon.

    Best wishes
