    Classical Guitar

I am looking for some classical guitar recordings with only one guitar if possible or a couple 2 or 3 but not any more than 3 guitars in one piece.

    Recommendations welcome please....

    Hi McStrum
I enjoy Napoleon Coste very much. The recordings I have, are Naxos. If you go to the Naxos website, you can register and listen to 25% of the music piece you want to hear. For a fee you can listen to entire music pieces.Naxos has a Composer list with all the recordings listed per composer.

Naxos is a great label to start with.

Other suggestions: Julian Bream, John Williams.

I was reading this article about classical guitar today-

    http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn...071300369.html

and it got me thinking about famous works for classical guitar. How come I can only come up with Rodrigo's Concerto De Aranjuez? Can you come up with some more? And who are you favourite classical guitarists besides those mentioned and Segovia?

Well, if you mean a particular sound/genre by "classical guitar," then I can't be of any help! But if you mean, a piece of classical music written for guitar, then that Salut für Caudwell piece by Helmut Lachenmann for two guitars is very fine. I can't think of anything for guitars that I enjoy more. Plus, if you get this, you'll have Gran Torso, too, for string quartet, which is just about the coolest thing I know for string quartet.

Too bad that sweet two guitar concerto by Santorsola hasn't been reissued for cd. Or just played anew, on cd. I couldn't find any listing for it, anyway. If anyone else knows of a copy out there, I'd love to know about it.

Hmm, never heard of any of those...

Found out that Brazilian composer Heitor Villa-Lobos has written some things for guitar, including a concerto (for Segovia,) but I haven't heard them either. Aren't there any famous pieces I'm forgetting about?

Famous? Nothing like the Rodrigo concerto. Bu there are numerous compositions for guitar and orchestra, including concertos by Malcolm Arnold, Heitor Villa Lobos, Toru Takemitsu, Peter Sculthorpe, Nigel Westlake, Mario Castelnuovo-Tedesco, Antonio Vivaldi, Johann Friedrich Fasch, Johann Ludwig Krebs, and Richard Rodney Bennett. And that's just from our own CD collection.

Solo guitar works are (of course) even more abundant, Albeniz and Granados need to be mentioned here for sure.
