Test Your Knowledge - Game #1

Ok ... once a week I'll pose a question in a poll. One of the choices in the poll will be the correct answer, and you can select only one. The poll will close after one week, and the correct answer revealed. Some are tricky, some will be easy ... after all, it's all in fun.

July 18 to July 24 - This weeks question:
"The Canary Islands in the Pacific are named after what animal?"

That's cheating ... ... it was hoped that people would not use external references, relying only upon what they think was the correct answer.

    Answer

Well, if you picked "Dog", you were correct.

From Wiki: The islands' name is likely derived from the Latin term Insularia Canaria, meaning Island of the Dogs, a name applied originally only to the island of Gran Canaria. It is thought that the dense population of an endemic breed of large and fierce dogs, like the Presa Canario, was the characteristic that most struck the few ancient Romans who established contact with the islands by the sea.
