• Welcome to the Pipe Organ Forum! This is a part of the open community Magle International Music Forums focused on pipe organs (also known as "church organs"), organists, organ music and related topics.

This forum is intended to be a friendly place where technically advanced organists and beginners (or even non-organists) can feel comfortable having discussions and asking questions. We learn by reading and asking questions, and it is hoped that the beginners (or non-organists) will feel free to ask even the simplest questions, and that the more advanced organists will patiently answer these questions. On the other hand, we encourage complex, technical discussions of technique, music, organ-building, etc. The opinions and observations of a diverse group of people from around the world should prove to be interesting and stimulating to all of us.

As pipe organ discussions can sometimes become lively, it should be pointed out that this is an open forum. Statements made here are the opinion of the poster, and not necessarily that of the forum itself, its administrator, or its moderators.

In order to post a new topic - or reply to existing ones - you may join and become a member by clicking on Register New User. It's completely free and only requires a working email address (in order to confirm your registration - it will never be given away!). We strive to make this a friendly and informative forum for anyone interested in pipe organs and organ music.

Dear Forum,

Please read about a very sad situation that's developing in Sweden in regards to a magnificent organ:

http://www.halmstadorgel.se/english.html

Here is also a spec list:

<www.svenskakyrkan.se/halmstad/stnikolai/orgeln.asp> *N.B.* You can click on the pictures to get a better view of the instrument.

Do consider adding your name to this protest. I played two recitals on this organ this past summer and can attest to a most magnificent sound.

If anyone on this forum has access to other forums, please share with all concerned. The organworld must cry out in unison for the nonsense to stop. The world famous Christopher Herrick has recorded a CD on this organ for the Hyperion Label.

Respectfully,

Corno Dolce

Hi Arvin B,

Thanx for noticing. It is just heartbreaking that a few bureaucrats can stoop so low. The instrument was built to a cost of about SEK 10,500,000 - about $1,616,634.85!!! The recently retired Music Director of that parish intimated with me that Christopher Herrick called the Halmstad instrument *his favorite of all that he had recorded*.

Regards,

Oh no.

This decision is extremely hard to understand, however some museum experts tend to see any "historical detail" as better than a modern detail. These people simply lack any understanding of the organ it seems. Hope this idea won't be carried out.

Hi Peter,

As of yesterday morning, the 607 signatures on the protest-list was delivered to the intended receipient. Some are still signing it, so we'll see if the signatory list will have the desired effect. Many highly acclaimed concert organists, Organbuilders, Cathedral Organists and other experts from around the world signed on. I had thought that such tomfoolery by bureaucrats would be found mainly in America. Alas, such is not the case. I'll try to keep this forum apprised of what's happening.

Cheers,

Corno Dolce
