Ella Fitzgerald
But not by the '80s, though. Had the very great pleasure of meeting her once – a real lady.
Back on topic ...
Absolutely agree with Freddie and probably George Michael too.
I would add Alison 'Alf' Moyet, who originally came to attention as one half of Yazoo.
Annie Lennox – nothing more need be said. And she's still got an absolutely super voice.
Cher – another artist whose career spans more than one decade, but she was part of the 1980s, so ...
Bruce Springsteen – a really great rock 'n' roll performer.
Billy Joel – again, a performer from more than a single decade, but the 1980s saw his biggest commercial album.
Midge Ure – frontman with Ultravox and a wonderfully distinctive voice.
I will have to say Madonna. I love the song True Blue that she
did and the Moody Blues with Your Wildest Dreams.

Hi Art Rock,
Yep, Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau is one of the greats. Placido Domingo also has it in spades.
Cheers,

Topic resurrected-
Michael Jackson! Now that's good.
''Music, I feel, should be emotional first and intellectual second.'' - Maurice Ravel
''The greatest education in the world is watching the masters at work.'' - Michael Jackson
You all need to check out Martin Tielli, my favorite singer ever. His solo work is phenominal, as is his more popular work with the Rheostatics, both WELL worth your time.
No one has mentioned Duran Duran. They were hot during the 80's
and are getting it together again. How about Pink Floyd. I just loved
their "On the turning away".
