I have a question regarding a lyric in an old spiritual that has been covered by everybody from Pete Seeger to Springsteen. It's called "Mary Wore Three Links of Chain".

It says, "Mary wore three links of chain, each one bearing Jesus' name." Does anybody have any idea to what that is referring?

Also, if this is not the place to post this, and someone knows of a forum more suitable for the question, please let me know.

I believe the song was refering to Jesus' life, burial, and resurrection.
I'm not sure. I will keep you posted so keep this thread alive. I like
old spirituals.

Thanks. I like that better. It seems that a lot of other Christmas songs contain those elements as well.
