I'll be honest with you. I didn't know this piece till yesterday but when I'd heard it for the very first time I fell in love with it. It is so beautiful that it is... undescribeable.

What do you think of it?

Hello Mat,

To be honest, its probably the only Samuel Barber piece that I like. I played an organ transcription of it yesterday for a funeral since the decedent wanted it so.

Cheers,

Try to hear it in the original version as middle movement of his string quartet. Far superior IMHO.

An inspiring piece by any account. Would love to get hold of the organ transcription as it would make for a great service piece during Lent.

It's a beautiful piece, no doubt about it, though quite depressing:cry:... I think I'll have to put on 'In the Mood' or something similar afterwards to cheer me up!!

I believe it was made into a dance track - has anybody heard it? Though I don't usually listen to dance music it's better than some of the stuff around.

I agree; it's absolutely beautiful. But way too moving; I simply cannot listen to this kind of music anymore. It's too hard on me.

Hope nobody minds; thought this belonged on the classical board, so I've moved it here. :)

It's an amazing work. I found it a year ago looking for something which could guide me in my first string quartet composition. It's difficult not fall in love with it!
