CT, Thanks for sharing this splendid information. Although I have been around pipe organs for many years, my view has mainly been from the console. The bit about the swell shutters was of great interest ... My organ tech has to remove 3 shades in order to gain entry into the Swell box, all within an 18" wide catwalk that runs behind the exposed Great division. Indeed, it seems that most pipe organ techs are short and very thin.
Finding the offensive pipe can be a daunting task ... I've always used short strip of paper - running it over the top of the rank which doesn't alter the tuning on the others.
