Hi Corno Dolce,
Now, that's some sax for sure. My son is coming here for the holidays and I'll certainly show this link to him ... his eyes will pop out and then he will exclaim "I want one of those!"
Buying one of those would be like taking out a 2nd mortgage on the house.
Thanks for the link ...![]()

Hello Krummhorn,
Maybe you'd reconsider taking out that second mortgage on the house to pay for such an instrument...I was amazed when I saw that sax. I thought that it would easily achieve at least a 16' C or lower. There seemed to be enough tubing for it.
Apropos building one's own instrument - I have toyed with the idea of constructing a 24' FF Alphorn out of carbon-fiber w/six keys. The keys would lift pads in order to acheive a chromatic scale. I wonder if one would have to make a full-length metal mandrel on a lathe or could one *section* the mandrel and have threaded ends so that one could screw it together like a pool cue? Also, I wonder about the placement of the key-holes - how far apart between each key and how far apart between the two groups of three keys?
I have this notion that for every two feet of tube length the diameter of the tube should increase by one inch so that the bell mouth would measure twelve inches in inside diameter. Also, the instrument should be separatable into four 6' sections. The bell-mouth end should gradually curve upwards at a 45 degree angle.
What has inspired my thoughts about the project is this website:

Your thoughts, if any?
Cheers,
Corno Dolce

I used to play it's cousin the clarinet. The church pipe organ has a stop
and pipe that sounds like that! I laugh when I hear it.The big sax sounds
as if it is farting. I hope that isn't too dirty I want to keep it civil.
