Heard a pianist on last.fm I'd not come across before, Jay McShann, found a couple of tracks on youtube, first is Jay with Milt Hinton, Plas Johnson and an un named drummer, pure blues

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=enxUmobn8oY

Second track is one of Jay's compositions, but not played by him, some fine Boogie .

    Cheers MIKE.

    Hi CT,
Like Mike I find the Planet Suite odd jazz (I havent heard of a jazz version but Kenton at one time would possibly have had a go-at Mars perhaps)).

    Cheers John

Anybody got an opinion of Jools Holland and his Rythm and Blues Band, I quite like a lot of their work, but then they go and throw in something a bit too commercial for my liking. Jools himself can turn out some mean Boogie.

I see he is doing a world tour this year.
    Cheers MIKE.

    Hi Mike,
I've never been too fond of the Jools Orch. though his own contributions can be OK.
Jay McShann is a good and versatile pianist. and I,m listening to him on Spotify at this moment.
    Cheers John

Must admit, not much if any jazz today for me, too busy playing with me organ (GrandeOrgue virtual pipe organ that is) having a go at transcribing a Rameau harpsichord work to organ.

    Keeps me off the streets.

    Mike,
I'm listening to Newcastle playing Scunthorpe on radio as I type (Hurrah Carroll just scored), I have just had a look at my Wes M. playlist on Spotify and there it is- the track from "The Incredible Jazz Guitar of Wes Montgomery". I'll listen to it at half time
    Cheers John

    Hi Mike,
Wes Montgomery is certaily some guitar player but far from new to me.
Maybe I'll start a thread off on best jazz guitarist of all time- Django would have to be up there.
For the moment I am listening to a CD from my local library "Stan Getz and Cal Tjader"
