Just burned and listened to my first Esbjorn Svensson CD “Good morning soho” at first I was not keen but by the end of the CD I was thoroughly enjoying it.
    Some observations
Track 4. The Wraith, a sound of running water, what instrument was used for this? You can get some thing like that on the Bass but never that realistic! Was it a synthasiser?
The CD was d/l mp3@320k but was good enough for jazz the double bass sounded great and he is a very good player “Dan Burgland” but the musical construction of some pieces was not IMHO worthy of the musicians being a conglomeration of short phrases and weird sound effects why??? There are so many good tunes around that they could improvise around, I am tempted to say (its jazz but not as we know it) but I won’t . T10 The face of love was built on basic rhythms and riffs with the Bongos and I loved it. T11 ‘Reminiscence of a soul’ was excellent very complicated meters from the percussion which included 6/8 4/4 7/8
I finished up a convert to this Trio and can’t wait to listen to the 2nd CD “Viaticum”

    "Somewhere Else Before" by E.S.T.

@Colin - Esbjorn Svensson's music is 'edgy' but I find it very appealing for some reason. His untimely and tragic death was a great loss for the Jazz world. Enjoy "Viaticum"

    Best,

Bob Brookmeyer "The Essential Collection. The final session with the Red Mitchell Sextet. (Red on Bass, Bob-v.tbn, Conte Condoli- tr, Zoot Sims-ten, Claude Williamson-p, and Stan Levey-dr,) is superb West Coast jazz.

Also Lena Horne/Sammy Davis "Double Play" a team I have not heard before.

    teddy,
If you are Duckmeister can I be Swanmeister?

CD I agree, the Viaticum CD was a little more avant-garde compared to Good morning Susie IMO but I am rapidly warming to this trio, as you say his death is a sad loss, have the other two formed another trio?
Btw the last track (What though the way may be long) on my d/l must be corrupt as there is a gap of about 6 min in the middle, Colin
