Cool Red Heat - Piano Player Song

    Hi, I'm Beverly
I was looking for information regarding a song in the movie Red Heat. It's the bar in Russia, and there's a piano player singing a song in Russian. I would love to know the song and the composer.
I was also looking for the composer that Barishnikov was talking about in Russia that Russians should be able to dance to, but are unable to because it was banned.
My daughter is a gymnast and will be dancing to her own music, and I'm enthralled by the Russion composers in both of these movies. I found a thread regarding the Red Heat music, but lost it.
If anyone could help, I would be ever grateful.

    Thanks,
    Beverly

    Hi Beverly

Glad to have you with us here at MIMF.
Looked up that movie on IMDB.com, and found that James Horner wrote the score. His Discography (click here) listing doesn't show this particular movie.

This wikipedia site has some information about music used for the movie.

I dont know if that will help, this song is probably originally russian, not written specifically for the movie. I could ask around if you find me an actuall excerpt from the movie that features the song, because I dont remember what it sounds like...

Ill also do some snooping around on the second question of yours!

It's amazing isn't it with that rough gravelly voice.

So sets the scene for a really cheap Bar .....

Hi Beverly - I too have been searching for this song. It is called "Benya Hooligan" and the first few words appear to translate to "I am Benya Hooligan the bandit" - here is a quick link for you:

    http://video.google.com/videoplay?do...5472775208294#

I have searched for the song + singer on youtube but no luck. Please let me know if you find anything useful.

There is a famous Russian singer, songwriter + poet, Vladimir Wysotzky whose gravelly voice + music you may find similar to the item in question, there are 50 or 60 of his songs on youtube. Vysocki's name can be spelt in many different ways, including Владимир Высоцкий

    Good luck ...... mikeyboy

    Benya Hooligan

I have found a Russian peformer named Shufutinsky (Михаил Шуфутинский) singing Benya Hooligan Налетчик Беня on youtube:

although in certain ways I prefer the rough and ready style of the piano player in the smoky bar.

    All best ...... mikeyboy
